What happens during counselling?

We will have a 50-minute session and that time is entirely devoted to you. We will begin by exploring what has brought you to counselling and the concerns and issues that are uppermost in your mind. As we begin to discuss things it is likely that other thoughts and feelings will emerge which you might also wish to examine.

Counselling will inevitably make demands on your time, energy and finances. It is not uncommon in counselling for people to feel worse for a while, as they begin to open up issues they have been trying not to face up to. It is important that you are not left in an emotionally difficult place without the tools to deal with the pain; please therefore consider whether you are in the right place in your life to embark on a course of counselling, and whether you have the financial resources to sustain the counselling relationship for as long as is necessary for you to feel your difficulties are sufficiently resolved.
